It is Emily that becomes the focus of the tale so I needed her to be the stronger character of the two to invest in. Even though I think that was the authors intention, it was perhaps a risk that didn’t work for me. Of the two protagonists, it is Chase that engenders my sympathy far more than Emily. I was far less impressed with Emily as a main character, I thought her shallow and naive. While Em quickly discovers she has been deluding herself, the damage has been done and her mistake has far reaching consequences. Then he meets Ty, a stunning young woman and quickly finds himself obsessed by her beauty and promise, but Ty knows his secrets and the cracks in his manufactured veneer begin to show.Įmily has a crush on her best friends boyfriend, Zach, a suave, privileged, high school football hero who is more than willing to exploit Emily’s near worship when his girlfriend goes away for a few days. In the small town of Ascension two teenagers are stalked by mysterious red heads who trail blood red flowers in their wake.Ĭhase is initially a sympathetic character, his tenuous social status, the loss of his father and his regret at Sasha’s suicide create a portrait of an ordinary, if somewhat troubled, teenager. This is the intriguing premise for Elizabeth Mile’s young adult debut, Fury, that caught my attention. When your mistakes attract the attention of the Furies there is no escaping the consequences.
