It is Emily that becomes the focus of the tale so I needed her to be the stronger character of the two to invest in. Even though I think that was the authors intention, it was perhaps a risk that didn’t work for me. Of the two protagonists, it is Chase that engenders my sympathy far more than Emily. I was far less impressed with Emily as a main character, I thought her shallow and naive.
